What is the BC PNP Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS)?

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) is a points-based intake management system used to rank and invite candidates for provincial nomination. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for one of BC PNP's Skills Immigration streams register a profile and receive a score based on factors including their job offer wage, occupation, regional district of employment, work experience, education, and language ability.

British Columbia conducts regular draws from the SIRS pool, inviting the highest-scoring candidates to submit a full application. Once nominated by BC, candidates receive 600 additional CRS points in the Express Entry system, virtually guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence from IRCC.

How SIRS Scoring Works

Your SIRS score is calculated out of a maximum of 200 points, divided equally between two categories:

Economic Factors (max 100 pts)

  • Job offer wageUp to 60 pts
  • NOC TEER categoryUp to 25 pts
  • Regional districtUp to 10 pts

Human Capital Factors (max 100 pts)

  • Work experienceUp to 25 pts
  • Highest educationUp to 25 pts
  • Language proficiencyUp to 30 pts

Wage scoring is the single most impactful factor. The BC PNP awards points on a sliding scale from 0 points for wages below $16.00/hr up to 60 points for wages of $70.00/hr and above. Higher-paying job offers receive proportionally more points, which reflects BC's goal of attracting workers in high-demand, well-compensated occupations.

Regional district points incentivize workers to settle outside of Metro Vancouver and Greater Victoria. Employers in smaller communities like Squamish-Lillooet, Sunshine Coast, Northern BC, and the Kootenays offer candidates 10 bonus points.

Tips to Improve Your BC PNP SIRS Score

1

Negotiate a higher wage

Even a small increase in your hourly wage can significantly boost your score. Each wage bracket awards incrementally more points.

2

Consider regional opportunities

Job offers outside of Metro Vancouver and Greater Victoria earn 5-10 extra regional points. Explore employers in the Okanagan, Kootenays, or Northern BC.

3

Improve your language scores

Language proficiency carries up to 30 points. Retaking the IELTS or CELPIP to reach CLB 9 or 10 can dramatically increase your overall score.

4

Gain more directly related experience

Each additional year of experience in your NOC occupation adds points. Ensure your reference letters clearly document your duties and tenure.

5

Pursue higher education

A master's degree earns 22 points vs 15 for a bachelor's. If you're considering further education, this could meaningfully impact your SIRS score.

6

Target a higher TEER occupation

TEER 0 and TEER 1 occupations earn 25 points vs 15 for TEER 3. If you have qualifications for a higher-TEER role, pursue those job offers.
